Pearland

Rhode Island School of Design BFA Thesis Collection 2017

My pieces open the door to play, they allow the viewer and the wearer to use their imagination and creativity.

The colorful illusion in the work has a dreamlike quality that makes it attractive, and makes the wearer curious. Like Alice in Wonderland, the pieces embody the feeling of Alanna in Pearl-land; it is a place full of fantasy and humor. But this “wonderland” is not full of happiness, there is a melancholy undercurrent. It is built upon flaws and sadness, but is full of wonderment.  It is a home for discarded pearls, and you are just a passenger walking by.

‘Pearland’

Clusters of gems blooming all over.

A rainbow maze of illusion, and you, camouflaged within the luminescence.

‘'Pearly Whites’

A family of nine walk on their invisible feet,

stretching out their golden arms and linking into formation;

they choose to be a side-ways “D”, a half moon, a grin without the cat.
